Artist Statement

My craft reflects my love and reverence for the natural world, womanhood, humanity, and the ways in which these things have shaped my experiences. As a child, I found sanctity in Nature and wondered at its persistence. Now, after a traumatic adolescence marred by sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and mental illness I find myself returning for solace and to draw strength from such persistence.

Leaning on the ease I feel in the natural world has allowed me to re-examine the interest of my youth within the context of my own experiences and those I bear witness to. I explore my experiences and these observed narratives through my craft practice by developing work that melds them with utilitarian objects in the form of adornment, home goods, and furniture. Through process and material exploration I am recontextualizing the narratives surrounding what it means for humanity to maintain a home on this planet socially and environmentally and our collective and individual responsibilities to steward such a place.

Craft Statement

The process of discovery and the problem-solving that Craft requires of me drives my sense of wonder and curiosity. I work primarily in wood, metal, and fibers because these materials come from the earth and help me to feel close to the wilderness I relish and draw inspiration from. I understand craft to be in essence an inheritance of knowledge with the application of practiced skill, the culmination of generations of community efforts. Working with this sense of compiled tradition leads me to incorporate materials or objects gifted to me or collected through my life. This way of working is a nod to my core belief that we are all compilations of those we encounter, each of us impossible without the other.
